Adjournment Debate - Safety of the MV Ruby in Great Yarmouth 19th December 2024

The dumping of almost 300 tonnes of ammonium nitrate off the Great Yarmouth coast, and the related mess, is a scandal. I demanded answers in Parliament tonight, I got none. I will not let this go. We must uncover the FULL truth for my boss, the people of Great Yarmouth.

My adjournment debate in Parliament on the 19th of December.

Westminster Hall Debate on the Future of Fishing post-2026, 5th November 2024

On Tuesday 5th November Rupert hosted his first Westminster Hall Debate, on the Future of Fishing post-2026. Great Yarmouth has a rich fishing heritage, and like many coastal seats voted to leave the EU to, amongst other things, take back control of our territorial fishing waters. This demand has still not been met.

2026 is a crucial year. Our deal with the EU on fisheries runs out. This will be our next great opportunity to meet the promise made to fishermen in 2016.

During the debate Rupert set out his blueprint to revive our once great fishing and fish processing industry:

  • Take back full control of our territorial waters and 200-mile Exclusive Economic Zone.
  • All fish caught in UK waters to be landed and processed in the UK.
  • Ban foreign supertrawlers from UK waters.
  • Any foreign vessel fishing in UK waters to pay a licence fee, with the money raised to be invested directly in the UK fishing industry.
  • Wholesale reform of quota system and a ban on the commercial sale of fishing quotas.
